Several thousand years ago, on the banks of Kanti Sarovar lake in the Himalayas, Yogi provided his enlightened knowledge to his famous saptarishi (seven disciples). Although Yoga in India was a part of daily life in the pre-Vedic period, the prominent sage Maharishi Patanjali decodified & simplified the then prevailing Yogic practices and its significance and its correlated awareness, knowledge & skills through Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Thereafter, many sages and Yoga gurus added greatly for the salvation and expansion of the yoga through documented application and works.
The yoga history period between 800 AD – 1700 AD is considered as a period of excellent period, in which Adi Shankaracharya, Ramanujacharya and Madhavacharya – were prominent.
